First of all being affordable does not equate to being basic or non-professional. As stated above, MECH5 is based on the DEC SuperScan which had 20 years of development as a professional scantool with loads of high-end coding capabilities. Second, MECH5 is affordable for three main reasons:
- Being fully Cloud-based means our application development costs are far, far lower than we had conventionally
- The Cloud allows access to pro diagnostics for all technicians from all over the world (multi-language is in progress) on a monthly pay-as-you-use basis, so the economies of scale for MECH5 are boundless.
To give an example, the NETFLIX fledgling video streaming model was laughed at by BlockBuster when they launched it in 2007. Blockbuster even turned down the opportunity to buy it for relative peanuts as they considered it was too cheap and too poor a service to be able to compete with the quality of DVD and BlueRay. But, BlockBuster filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and NETFLIX is now the world leader in video on demand services.
This is an example of how Cloud Services are changing business models. We are NOT saying that we will do the same to conventional scantools as they did to DVD sales, but what we can do is add a completely new and competitive concept to the world of professional scantools that will be an affordable adjunct to legacy versions. MECH5 will not be for every technician but there is a place for all types of systems.
- VCI Cost. Frankly speaking the cost of conventional scantool hardware has been vastly inflated in the past because the business model was about shifting units of hardware. With our DAAS model, its all about selling online subscriptions, so the hardware cost can be kept very cost effective to allow as many technicians as possible to afford to try the system.
